This course will teach students operation standards most important to industry employers.
This training will focus on preventing unnecessary wear and damage through proper inspection, hydraulic awareness, correct digging geometry, undercarriage care, and disciplined operating habits that will accelerate you into the driver's seat; and keep you there.
Students learn how to:
Identify early signs of wear, leaks, loose hardware, and hydraulic issues before they turn into costly failures.
Understand how over-revving, dead-heading controls, and improper warm-up/cool-down cycles accelerate pump and valve damage.
Learn how improper tension causes premature undercarriage wear, derailing, and unnecessary stress on final drives.
Use proper boom, stick, and bucket angles to reduce strain on pins, bushings, cylinders, and swing components.
Avoid side-loading, excessive curling, and shock loading that leads to cracked buckets, bent linkages, and structural fatigue.
Learn travel techniques that minimize track damage, prevent roll-offs, and reduce stress on rollers and idlers.
Correct end-of-day procedures to prevent hydraulic drift, contamination, and cold-start damage.

Operating standards which reflect the primary concerns of employers.
Improper machine operation is one of the leading causes of equipment damage, downtime, and preventable repair costs. Employers expect operators who understand how their actions affect machine longevity, safety, and productivity—not just whether the job gets done.
These standards align with what employers care about most: protecting equipment, reducing downtime, and ensuring operators work safely and professionally from day one.
For employers, poor operating habits cost far more than slow production. This training addresses the behaviors that most often lead to damage, downtime, and lost revenue.
